Edith Irene Thomas, the daughter of Paul and Caroline Sindt Carstensen, was born July 5, 1919 in Clay County, Iowa. Edith was raised on a farm near Everly and attended the Everly schools and graduated from high school there. Edith married Thomas Thomas on April 18, 1942, at the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. Edith was a dedicated homemaker and mother of six, she also worked a few years at Nelson Jewelry in Spencer. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer and a 50 year member of the P.E.O. Chapter where she had served as President. In her spare time, Edith enjoyed flower gardening, golfing, tennis, traveling and spending summers at the Lake. Edith passed away on January 10, 2009 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Spencer; her 6 children: Pam & Chuck Pohar of Spencer, Mary & Jerry Beck of Spencer, Lori Thomas of Spirit Lake, IA, Walter & Melanie Thomas of Council Bluffs, IA, John & Marie Thomas of Everly, IA and Jeff Thomas of Spencer; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends |
