Note

Laura Henriette Ingwersen Carstensen was the daughter of Paul Johann Ingwersen and Auguste Caroline Carsten.

She married Friederich Ludwig Carstensen on 22 Apr 1881, Bordelum, Nordfriesland, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Their children included:

1. Paul Carstensen, who immigrated to the United States in 1901.
2. Johann Carstensen, who immigrated to the United States in 1901.
3. Joachim Carstensen, who immigrated to the United States in 1902.
4. Auguste Carstensen, who immigrated to the United States in 1909.
5. Margarethe (Meta), who immigrated to the United States in 1921.

The destination for the children was Chicago, Illinois, where their uncle Christian August Ingwersen lived. Christian immigrated to America in 1879. By 1900, he was established as a shoe stock dealer. By, 1910, he was dealing with livestock, a salesman, paid by commission.

Laura's husband, Friedrich, immigrated to America in 1911, to join their children in Iowa. Daughter Meta immigrated in 1921, settling in California. Laura chose to remain in Germany, per family. It isn't clear why she remained in Germany, as her parents had died, and other family members had already immigrated to America. Perhaps the plan was for her to go to America too, but the time and expense to move an entire family may have proved too much in the end.

She died 15 November 1934, Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Her death record reads, " witwe, ohne Beruf." Translated it means widow, without occupation (Flensburg, Germany, Death Index Cards, 1874-1982).
