Born before the turn of the century, Anna Cecelia saw many changes in the world over the course of her lifetime. She was the daughter of Boy Peter Peterson, who immigrated from Schlesweig-Holstein, Germany. Her father immigrated to the United States in 1883. Anna's mother was Cecelia Caroline Hargens who was also born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Unfortunately, both of her parents died when she was very young. Her mother died in 1906 in Nebraska, and then her father followed five years later, in 1911. Anna completed nursing school in 1920. She married John Paul Carstensen on 12 November 1923, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Anna and John settled in Medford, Oregon where they raised their three sons and daughter. At her 100th birthday, the family celebrated with a family reunion in Roseville, California. She lived to be 101. Although her hearing and vision declined with age, she remained very sharp of mind until the end. |
