ervices for Helen L. Thompson, 85, resident of Manor Care Nursing Center, Davenport, IA, formerly of Rock Island, IL, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, IL. The Rev. Jerry Helms will officiate. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. The former Helen Carstensen was born July 16, 1912, in Kenneth, MN, to Johann "John" and Caroline (Meyer) Carstensen. She married Gene Ray Thompson in 1940. She was a cook and nutritionist during her career, including Mercy Hospital and the Outing Club, from where she retired. In addition to working full-time, she raised four fine daughters, all by herself. She was especially proud of her family and grandchildren. During her retirement she volunteered at Trinity Medical Center. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-laws, Betty (Dennie) Hazlett, Bettendorf, GA; Georgia (Tom) Blessing, Davenport, IA; Rae Jean (Stan) Berger, Bettendorf, IA; and Rita Carroll, Moline, IL; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; half-sisters, Evelyn (Friedrichsen) Hildebrand, Rapid City, SD, Inez (Friedrichsen) Peters, Hartley, IA and Janice (Friedrichsen) Korczak, Costa Mesa, CA; and half-brother, Lloyd (Shirley) Friedrichsen, Peterson, IA. Also survived by son, Robert "Bob" (Diane) S. Mugge, of Loudon, TN. She was preceeded in death by a sister, Irma (Carstensen) Ingwersen, and a brother Kenneth Carstensen. |
