Joachim Friederick Carstensen was the son of Friedrich Ludwig Carstensen and Laura Ingwersen. He used the Americanized name of Joe on most of his records. He married Emma Marie Jensen. He immigrated to America in 1902, from the port of Hamburg, Germany.In 1910, he was living in Lone Tree, Clay, Iowa, a single man. By 1915, he was married, living in Clay, Iowa.
